Summary
Exposure times in the early days of photography were so long that smiling was basically impossible, and an entire era of people ended up staring down the camera with the expression of someone who has just heard a noise downstairs. The Thanatos Archive on Instagram has collected the images that linger longest in the memory, and there isn't a single ghost in any of them. Just real people, ordinary moments, and an eeriness nobody planned.
